Ayurvedic Medicine for Candida

Ayurvedic Medicine for Candida

Candida is a type of yeast that can cause fungal infections. There are many kinds of Candida, but the most common one is Candida albicans. Normally, our body can control Candida, and it lives harmlessly on our skin and in places like the gut and vagina. Babies can get it from their moms or from food. But if your immune system is weak, or if you eat poorly, Candida can grow too much in your body, causing problems. This is called Candida overgrowth.

Candidiasis mostly happens when your body’s digestion isn’t working well. This happens because of low digestive fire and issues with a part of the body called Samana vayu. These problems mess up how your body breaks down food. Then, undigested food turns into toxins called ama. These toxins stick in your gut and spread through your body. When these toxins build up, they stop your tissues from getting the right nutrients. They also get into your body’s channels, causing more problems. The toxins gather in your intestines, messing up the good bacteria and causing Candidiasis.

What is Candida ?

Candida albicans is a fungus that normally lives on your body. It’s a type of yeast found in small amounts in your mouth, on your skin, and in your intestines. Healthy bacteria in your body keep Candida in balance. When this balance is upset, Candida can grow too much and cause an infection called candidiasis.

Candida albicans is a yeast that naturally lives in your body. If the balance of healthy bacteria and yeast is disrupted, it can grow too much and cause an infection. This infection is called candidiasis. Common types of candidiasis include vaginal yeast infections, diaper rash, and thrush.

Ayurvedic View of Candida Infection

According to Ayurveda, candida infection happens mainly because of problems with digestion. When the digestive system doesn’t work properly, it creates a substance called ama, which is like undigested food leftovers. This ama can spread throughout the body and cause issues. When it builds up in the intestines, it can mess with the balance of good bacteria there, leading to candida overgrowth. So, according to Ayurveda, treating candida involves fixing digestion and getting rid of ama.

In Ayurveda, Candida is seen as a problem with the body’s ability to fight off invaders. This is because of a lack of something called OJA, which is like the body’s shield against harmful things. Things like bad eating habits, not living healthily, not digesting food well, and imbalances in the body’s natural elements can all lead to this lack of OJA.

Another reason for Candida could be undigested food or toxins called AMA. When food isn’t properly digested, it can create these toxins. These toxins can then get into the bloodstream and cause various health issues. They can build up in the intestines and stop the good bacteria from growing properly.

In Ayurveda, it’s believed that when Candida grows too much, it lets these toxins into the liver and bloodstream. This can harm the body’s ability to make and process important parts, like blood and muscles.

Type of Candida Infection

Candida albicans can cause several types of infections:

1.         Thrush:

Yeast grows too much in the mouth and throat, causing white, raised bumps. This is when it grows too much in the mouth and throat. It’s common in babies, older people, those who wear dentures, and people with weak immune systems.

2.         Vaginal yeast infection:

[/vc_column][/vc_row]

Yeast overgrows in the vagina, leading to infection. It’s also called “vaginal candidiasis” or “candidal vaginitis.” This happens when the fungus grows too much in the vagina. It’s more common in pregnant women, those who use birth control pills or hormone therapy, those who recently took antibiotics, or people with weak immune systems.

3.         Invasive candidiasis:

A serious infection that spreads throughout the body, affecting the blood, bones, brain, and heart. This is a serious infection that can affect the bloodstream or other parts of the body. It’s most common in people who are in the hospital, use catheters, have had surgery, or have weak immune systems.

Symptoms of Candida infection

When you have a Candida infection, it can cause problems in different parts of your body, like:

•           In your mouth and throat.

•           In your vagina and bottom.

•           Around the diaper area for babies (like their private parts, bottom, and thighs).

•           In skin folds (like underarms, groin, under breasts).

Here are some signs that you might have a Candida infection:

•           Redness, like a rash.

•           Feeling itchy.

•           Blisters.

•           White patches that look lumpy.

•           Feeling pain, soreness, or discomfort.

•           A burning feeling.

•           Discharge from the vagina.

Cause of Candida infection

Reasons for getting infected by Candida albicans are:

1.         Feeling stressed.

2.         Having unmanaged diabetes.

3.         Having a weak immune system.

4.         Eating too much refined carbs, yeast, and sugar.

5.         Taking antibiotics, steroids, hormones, or birth control pills.

Ayurvedic medicine for Candida Infection

Candida albicans is a type of yeast that lives in soil and can also be found in places like the digestive tract, vagina, and skin folds of humans. Usually, it’s kept in check by other bacteria. But if these bacteria decrease for some reason, Candida can grow too much, causing issues like vaginal yeast infections or thrush in the mouth. Sometimes, the excess yeast can enter the bloodstream, causing various symptoms like tiredness, trouble sleeping, or digestive problems. In the 1980s, many people believed in something called “systemic candidiasis,” where they thought Candida overgrowth caused a wide range of health issues. This idea became popular due to a book called “The Yeast Connection.” However, later, it was found that not everyone diagnosed with this condition actually had excessive Candida. Still, many were put on strict diets and given strong medications without much benefit, possibly because of the placebo effect.

1.         Garlic: Garlic is a potent antibacterial and antifungal agent. It inhibits the growth of Candida, a type of fungus. Its active compounds help the body fight off infections. Additionally, garlic aids in relieving abdominal discomfort and indigestion, promoting better digestive health.

2.         Neem (Azadirachta Indica): Neem is renowned for its immune-boosting properties and its ability to combat fungal infections. It acts as a detoxifying agent, helping to rid the body of harmful substances. Neem’s antimicrobial effects make it effective against Candida overgrowth, supporting overall health and well-being.

3.         Giloy (Tinospora Cordifolia): Giloy is considered an immunomodulator in Ayurveda, meaning it helps regulate the immune system. By boosting immunity, Giloy assists the body in fighting off Candida infections and vaginal thrush. Its medicinal properties contribute to overall health and vitality.

4.         Dried Ginger Powder: Ginger possesses anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and digestive-stimulating properties. It aids in digestion, reduces inflammation, and inhibits the growth of Candida. Ginger’s ability to balance digestive juices and increase appetite makes it beneficial for individuals suffering from Candida infection symptoms such as abnormal vaginal discharge or oral candidiasis.

5.         Olive Leaf Extract: Extracted from olive leaves, this remedy is used to combat fungal infections caused by Candida. Its antifungal properties help inhibit the growth of Candida fungus, promoting a healthier microbial balance in the body.

6.         Black Walnut: Black walnut contains tannins, natural compounds known for their antifungal properties. It helps reduce Candida fungus, prevent overgrowth, and may even protect against parasitic infections in the oral or vaginal cavity. This herbal remedy supports overall oral and vaginal health.

7.         GHANDHAK RASAYAN

These are herbal medicines made from Purified Sulphur. They’re called “rasayan” because they help rejuvenate the body naturally without causing any side effects. These medicines also help get rid of toxins from the body.

8.         MANJISTHA

These medicines are made from a special extract of the Rubia cordifolia plant. They work well against candidiasis, managing all the signs and symptoms associated with it effectively.

9.         NIRGUNDI OIL

This oil has properties that reduce inflammation. It’s meant for external use only. Apply it to the affected skin area, leave it on for 10-15 minutes, and then wash it off with lukewarm water. It’s especially helpful to use Nirgundi oil before taking a bath to reduce swelling, pain, and irritation.

10.       Asparagus:

Asparagus isn’t just tasty food, it’s also used in traditional medicine called Ayurveda. It helps with stomach problems like ulcers and indigestion. Studies show it’s as effective as antibiotics for some infections.

11.       Guduchi:

Guduchi is a plant from India used in Ayurveda to boost the immune system. It also helps the body get rid of toxins after an infection.

12.       Ashwagandha:

After treating an infection like thrush, you might still feel unwell. Ashwagandha is a herb recommended for this. It’s been used in Ayurvedic medicine for a long time to treat diseases and anxiety. Research suggests it can boost the immune system and even help fight tumors and brain diseases.

Ayurvedic treatment of Candida Infection

Candida infections can be long-lasting and tough to get rid of. If not treated, they can spread throughout the body. Things like digestion problems, weak digestion fire (agni), low immunity (ojas), and too many antibiotics can make Candidiasis worse. But you can improve it by eating well and making lifestyle changes.

At Ayur Healthcare, they treat Candidiasis by looking at the whole person. They use a mix of diet, lifestyle changes, and herbal medicine. It takes time, discipline, and commitment to get better. Treatments focus on boosting digestion fire, cutting down on sugary and fermented foods, and keeping clean. They also work to reduce toxins and boost immunity, which helps the body fight off the yeast for good.

If the patient is okay for it, they might do a special cleansing treatment called Virechana to clear out toxins. After cleansing, they work on keeping digestion strong and building up immunity.

Ayurvedic treatment for Candida infection is similar to treating parasites. It involves:

1.         Balancing digestive enzymes (Agni) to improve digestion.

2.         Boosting immunity (Ojas).

3.         Eliminating the Candida pathogen by following these steps:

Step 1: Reduce toxins using procedures like Virechana (purging). For different body types:

•           Vata types can use castor oil with Asafetida or Garlic.

•           Pitta types can use ‘Avipattikara churna’.

•           Kapha types can use ‘Trivrit churna’.

Step 2: Regulate digestive fire (agni) using formulations containing trikatu and hing.

Step 3: Strengthen immunity using herbs like bala, ashwagandha, brahmi, and gudduchi.

Step 4: Use herbs like vidanga, neem, pomegranate, and tulsi to kill yeast after balancing the body.

Step 5: Take pippali rasayana to regulate digestion and triphala rasayana to purify the body’s tissues.

Step 6: Follow an Ayurvedic diet with turmeric, ginger, cumin, cardamom, and cinnamon. Avoid cold, heavy, oily, and fried foods, as well as caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, and fermented foods.

Understanding Candidiasis Cause: Candidiasis can be caused by vata, pitta, or kapha imbalances.

Vata Candidiasis & Treatment: Vata imbalance can be due to:

•           Eating too many pungent, bitter, or astringent foods.

•           Consuming too much cold food and traveling excessively.

•           Suppressing natural urges and irregular habits. Treatment involves avoiding dairy, sugar, bread, and mucus-producing foods. Sip hot water frequently and drink warm lemon water. Use spices like hing, ginger, basil, ajwan, and garlic. Also, use triphala churna before bed.

Pitta Candidiasis & Treatment: Pitta imbalance can be due to:

•           Consuming pungent, sour, or alkaline foods. Treatment involves eating fresh leafy greens, avoiding sugar and concentrated fruit juices, consuming pomegranates, bitter herbs, veggies, and spices, and drinking Neem tea.

Kapha Candidiasis & Treatment: Kapha imbalance can be due to:

•           Eating heavy, oily, and cold foods.

•           Overeating and sleeping after meals. Treatment involves avoiding mucus-forming, oily, and greasy foods, salt, and sugar. Take Trikatu powder with warm water before meals.

Diet:

•           Cut out refined sugar, grains, dairy, high mold foods, caffeine, alcohol, and sugary drinks.

•           Limit natural sweeteners, whole grains, and starchy vegetables.

•           Include probiotic foods, bitter greens, lean protein, digestive spices, and healthy fats.

•           Try recommended recipes.

Lifestyle:

•           Stick to a daily routine for balance.

•           Eat meals at consistent times.

•           Aim for proper sleep between 10pm and 2am.

•           Scrape your tongue each morning.

•           Drink hot lemon water each morning.

•           Perform oil massage and sweating therapy regularly.

•           Exercise for 30 minutes, 3 days a week.

Herbs:

•           Use Mahasudarshana Churna and Triphala Churna for cleansing.

•           Try Tikta Ghrita for detoxification.

•           Add digestive spices to meals.

•           Sip on herbal teas like CCF Tea or Ginger Tea.

•           Consider Ayurvedic herbs like Musta, Neem, Guduchi, Kutki, Vidanga, and Chitrak.

In conclusion, Ayurvedic medicine offers a holistic approach to treating Candida overgrowth, emphasizing the importance of diet, lifestyle, and herbal remedies. By following a tailored anti-Candida diet, establishing healthy daily routines, and incorporating specific herbs and practices, individuals can effectively address the root causes of Candida imbalance and support their body’s natural healing processes.

It’s essential to understand that treating Candida requires a comprehensive approach and a commitment to long-term lifestyle changes. While Ayurvedic remedies can provide significant relief, patience and consistency are key to achieving lasting results. By working with the body’s innate healing mechanisms and addressing imbalances from multiple angles, Ayurvedic medicine offers a promising path towards restoring balance and vitality in cases of Candida overgrowth.
