Ayurvedic medicine for Stomach Ache

Ayurvedic medicine for Stomach ache, known as udara shula in Ayurveda, can happen because of different stomach problems. When your digestion isn’t working well for a long time, your belly can swell up and cause pain.

In Ayurveda, there are treatments to help with stomach pain. These include applying heat (fomentation), making yourself vomit (medical emesis), and taking medicines to help clear out your bowels (purgation). Ayurvedic doctors often recommend herbs and medicines like sesame, emetic nut, and various special mixtures to manage stomach pain.

What is Stomach Ache?

Stomach ache is when your belly hurts. It can feel mild or really bad. It might stay all the time or come and go. It can make it hard to do normal stuff. Sometimes, stomach ache means something serious is wrong, so it’s important to know the signs and maybe see a doctor.

You might get a stomach ache if you eat too much, eat junk food, or eat food that’s gone bad or isn’t cooked right.

Ayurvedic Perspective of stomach Ache

Ayurveda says stomach pain can come from different things like problems with digestion or certain diseases. There are eight types of stomach pain in Ayurveda, which depend on what’s out of balance in the body. Stomach pain can be caused by:

1.         Imbalanced vata

2.         Imbalanced pitta

3.         Imbalanced kapha

4.         Imbalanced vata and pitta

5.         Imbalanced vata and kapha

6.         Imbalanced pitta and kapha

7.         Imbalanced vata, pitta, and kapha together

8.         Toxins or undigested food

Stomach pain during digestion is called parinama shula. Pain that happens no matter what you eat or if your stomach is empty or full is called annadrava shula. This type of pain can’t be fixed just by changing your diet.

Other diseases like irritable bowel syndrome can also cause stomach pain.

Causes of Stomach Ache

Your stomach might hurt for different reasons. It could be because of how your body digests food, if you got hurt, got an infection, or if you have a sickness. The pain could come from inside one of your organs, or from the muscles or skin in your belly. Sometimes, the pain might be from somewhere else nearby.

When you talk to your doctor about your pain, they’ll ask you lots of questions to figure out why it’s happening. How bad the pain feels doesn’t always mean it’s really serious. Some common things that make your stomach hurt a lot aren’t that serious, while some things that are dangerous might not feel too bad.

Most stomach aches are not very serious and usually don’t last long. They can happen because of things like digestion, periods, or a short-term sickness. Here are some common reasons:

1.         Digestive problems:

•           Feeling uncomfortable in your stomach after eating might be because of:

•           Eating too much.

•           Having gas.

•           Being constipated.

•           Having diarrhea.

•           Being allergic or intolerant to certain foods.

[/vc_column][/vc_row]

•           Getting sick from food.

2.         Inflammation:

•           Sometimes, your organs might get irritated or infected, causing temporary swelling. This can happen due to:

•           Viruses like the stomach flu.

•           Having a sore in your stomach (called a peptic ulcer).

•           Constantly having acid come back up from your stomach (known as GERD).

•           Getting a urinary tract infection.

3.         Female body changes:

•           If you’re a person with a uterus, you might feel some pain now and then because of:

•           Cramps during your period.

•           Feeling a bit of pain when you ovulate.

Sesame is soothing, nourishing, and reduces inflammation in the body. It’s used both inside and outside the body and can treat various issues like coughs, constipation, ulcers, burns, and skin problems caused by an imbalance in the body’s air energy. To use sesame for stomach pain, mix sesame seeds with water, heat it, and apply the resulting lump to the painful area on the belly. You can use sesame in different forms like liquid, paste, or powder.

Madana:

Madana is another plant used in Ayurveda for stomach pain. Different parts of the Madana plant have different healing powers. The bark helps with sleep and calms nerves, while the fruit and rind can make you vomit, make you sweat, and relax muscles. This muscle-relaxing effect helps with stomach pain. To use Madana for stomach pain, grind the fruit with a liquid called kanji and apply it to the belly button area.

 Triphala:

Triphala is made from three herbs and is good for detoxification and digestion. Mix a teaspoon of Triphala powder in water or milk and drink it.

Regular consumption of nutmeg oil with sugar may contribute to improved digestive health and reduced incidence of stomach-related discomfort. However, it’s essential to use nutmeg oil sparingly and follow recommended dosages, as excessive consumption may lead to adverse effects.

Ayurvedic Treatment for Stomach Ache

There are three main treatments for stomach pain in Ayurveda: Virechana, Vamana, and Tapa.

1.         Virechana: Virechana uses herbs and medicines to make you go to the bathroom and clean out your bowels. This helps remove harmful substances from your body and balance the things that cause sickness. It makes you feel lighter and calmer, reduces gas, and makes digestion better. So, it’s good for stomach problems and pain. After Virechana, it’s suggested to eat rice and lentil soup to help you recover.

2.         Vamana: Vamana uses herbs to make you vomit. This cleans out your stomach and gets rid of harmful stuff in your body. It also helps clear mucus from your throat and chest. There are two types of herbs used: ones that make you vomit and ones that make the vomiting better. Vamana helps with digestion issues, stomach bugs, fever, runny nose, and breathing problems. After Vamana, it’s important to rest and eat light, liquid food to get your balance back.

3.         Tapa: Tapa is a type of therapy where something warm is put on the parts of your body that hurt to make you sweat. This helps get rid of toxins from your body and makes digestion better. The toxins get pushed to your stomach, where they can be removed with treatments like Virechana and Vamana. Tapa is especially good for balancing certain things in your body called doshas, which can cause problems like pain.
