Ayurvedic Perspective of Bronchitis

In Ayurveda, bronchitis is called “Shwasa Pranali Shotha.” It happens when there’s too much Kapha in the respiratory system, especially in the bronchial tubes, causing inflammation. Type of Bronchitis

Bronchitis can be either long-lasting (chronic) or short-lasting (acute).

1.         Chronic Bronchitis:

Chronic Bronchitis is a severe form of the illness that lasts a long time and can come back even after treatment. It causes ongoing inflammation and irritation in the tubes in your lungs called bronchial tubes. Smoking is often the cause of chronic bronchitis.

2.         Acute Bronchitis:

Acute Bronchitis usually happens after you have a cold or cough. Some people call it a chest cold. Acute Bronchitis can be treated in a short time, usually within a week or ten days, but the cough may last longer.

Symptoms of Bronchitis

When you have bronchitis, you might experience:

1.         Coughing

2.         Making mucus (also called sputum), which can be clear, white, yellowish-gray, or green. Sometimes, it might have a bit of blood in it.

For Acute Bronchitis:

1.         You might also have cold symptoms, like a mild headache or body aches.

Chronic Bronchitis:

1.         This means having a cough that makes mucus for at least three months, and it keeps happening for at least two years.

2.         With chronic bronchitis, there might be times when your cough or other symptoms get worse. During these times, you might also get an acute infection along with the chronic bronchitis.

Cause of Bronchitis

Bronchitis is often caused by viruses. But things that irritate your airways can also lead to it. These can be infectious or noninfectious causes. Viruses like the flu, RSV, adenovirus, common cold virus, and coronavirus can cause bronchitis. Bacteria like Bordetella pertussis, Mycoplasma pneumonia, and Chlamydia pneumonia can also lead to it. Pollution and smoking cigarettes or marijuana can also irritate your airways and cause bronchitis.

When it’s done, stop heating and filter it while it’s still hot. Take ½ to 1 teaspoon of this ghee once or twice a day, followed by a cup of warm water, for 1 to 2 months.
